"And we are ready to provide what is needed for this. The state must pay, well (we) pay. I just talked to my peers in the Finance Ministry. The state must allocate budget," the minister remarked after attending a meeting with the Regional Representatives Council's (DPD's) Committee I in the parliamentary complex here on Tuesday.
The budget aims to aid the victims of past gross human rights violation so as to meet their rights, ranging from education and training to establishing businesses and building water network facilities, he elaborated.
"There are also the program of diesel for fishermen, financial access for capital, and so on and so forth," he pointed out.
The government has also offered to restore citizenship for the ones overseas who want to come home, the minister added.
The minister stated that during the launch recommendation for non-judicial resolution to Indonesian gross human rights violation that took place in Aceh on Tuesday, June 27, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) gave some aid to the victims, such as in the form of house renovations.
"Last time, the president saw it himself, and 16 houses of Rumah Geudong (tragedy) victims had been built. These people are happy. Some asked, '(Fund) my children's school, Sir, give scholarship until tertiary education', build worship places," Mahfud remarked.
On Tuesday, June 27, Jokowi officially launched the recommendation for non-judicial resolution to Indonesian gross human rights violation that took place in Aceh as a means to aid the victims in meeting their rights.
"In the name of God, the most gracious and most merciful. This noon, I officially launch the recommendation for non-judicial resolution to Indonesian gross human rights violation," he stated in Pidie District, Aceh.
On January 11, the government acknowledged 12 incidents of past gross human rights violations.
Those incidents comprise the incident in 1965-1966, mysterious shooting in 1982-1985, Lampung's Talasari incident in 1989, Aceh's Rumoh Geudong and Pos Sattis incident in 1989, kidnappings in 1997-1998, and May Riot in 1998.
The others were the Trisakti and Semanggi I-II incidents in 1998-1999, the killings of people accused as shamans in 1998-1999, Simpang KKA Aceh incident in 1999, Papua's Wasior incident in 2001-2002, Papua's Wamena incident in 2003, and Aceh's Jambu Keupok incident in 2003.
