"Nabire Baru Airport is actually ready from the air and land sectors. the ministry's director general of air transportation," M. Kristi Endah Murni, noted in a statement received here Thursday.
However, supporting facilities, such as the access road that connects the national road to the airport for 5.6 kilometers, the electricity supply network from PLN, the clean water supply, and the telecommunication support network are not ready yet, she said.
Earlier, she inspected the Nabire Baru Airport on Tuesday (July 4) as part of a working visit to Papua.
"Therefore, we hope for support from the local government to prepare the supporting facilities," she emphasized.
Murni also noted that the airport played a strategic role to develop the people's economy through air transport connectivity between regions.
According to Murni, the Nabire Baru Airport was a relocation from the existing Nabire Airport that could no longer be developed.
Nabire Baru Airport has a runway size of 1600 meters x 30 meters that can serve ATR-72 aircraft, a taxiway of 23 meters x 165 meters, and an apron of 367.5 meters x 100 meters.
Meanwhile, on the land side, this airport has a passenger terminal spanning an area of 6,320 square meters.
Furthermore, Murni urged the local authorities to improve flight security and safety facilities at the airport.
"I also ordered that the air-side area of the airport remain sterile from obstacles. For this reason, a neat and tight guardrail is needed because it involves safety for the comfort of the airlines while operating in Nabire," she remarked.
In addition, she called on airport managers to always pay attention to cleanliness and to conduct greening at the airport area both on the land and air sides.
"Cleanliness and greenery are necessary because they include services to accommodate passengers' comfort at the airport," she stated.
Apart from the Nabire Baru Airport, on Monday (July 3), Kristi also reviewed the operations of Ewer Airport in Asmat District, South Papua, before it was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo on Thursday.
