Jakarta (ANTARA) - The General Elections Commission (KPU) has announced that July 9 is the final day for political parties to submit revisions to the documents of their legislative candidates for the 2024 General Elections.

"According to Appendix I of KPU Regulation No. 10 of 2023, today, Sunday, July 9, 2023, is the deadline for submitting revised administrative documents of legislative candidates.", said Idham Kholik, KPU Commissioner, in Jakarta on Sunday.

As of 4:20 p.m. on Sunday, the NasDem Party, Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), National Mandate Party (PAN), and Workers Party have submitted the revised documents of their legislative candidates to the KPU.

A total of 18 political parties are participating in the 2024 General Elections.

The KPU began the period for revising candidates' documents on June 26 after handing over the verification reports of prospective legislative candidates to the respective parties on June 24, noted Kholik.

He stated that out of the total of 10,323 prospective legislative candidates, approximately 89.81 percent of the administrative documents submitted by candidates did not meet the requirements and needed revisions from their political parties.

"Out of the 10,323 candidates, only 10.19 percent have fulfilled the criteria," the commissioner said.

After the revision period ends, KPU will carry out the verification process for the revised documents from July 10 to August 6, 2023. The preliminary candidates list will be drafted on August 6-11, 2023.

"We will then prepare to finalize the candidate list, which will be announced no later than August 18, 2023," Kholik said.

The preliminary candidates' list will be published at various levels for five days from August 19-23, 2023, he added.

"Starting from August 19, there will be a ten-day period until August 28, during which residents can provide their feedback and input on the preliminary candidates' list that we have published," the KPU commissioner remarked.
