Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Ministry is working to improve the use of digital technology in infrastructure development through the implementation of building information modeling (BIM), especially in national strategic projects (PSNs).

Infrastructure development is an integral part of national development and is also the driver of the national economy, the ministry's Director General for Cipta Karya Diana Kusumastuti said during an online seminar on Monday.

Because of this, infrastructure development, which is being done on a massive scale to this day, requires proper construction execution management to ensure the work quality target, she said

One of the breakthroughs in the effort to expedite infrastructure development has been improving the use of construction technology and—in this Industry 4.0 era— digital technology that can optimize Internet networks to improve collaboration quality.

Digital technology, through Internet networks, closes the distance between people as well as improves the convenience and speed of obtaining data and information.

The implementation of BIM can start from the construction of schools, stadiums, markets, and other infrastructures.

BIM is a technology that allows the creation of a digital model or design of a building, which contains all the construction element information that is used as a basis for decision-making in planning and building any infrastructure.

It can also serve as a basis for decision-making during the infrastructure demolition and rebuilding period.

BIM supports the improvement of construction project execution and management to make projects more transparent and accountable.

The policy to use BIM in public building planning and design has been stipulated through various regulations, she said.

However, the ministry mandates the use of BIM in all construction projects, especially those in the new capital Nusantara (IKN).

BIM technology can help create a digital picture of architecture, structure, utility, mechanical, and electrical landscapes as well as work details and budget costs for projects.
