Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated that the construction of mass rapid transit (MRT) Phase 2A from the HI Roundabout to the Kota area had reached 28.4-percent completion, or exceeded the initial target.

"The target for the MRT Phase 2A development was 27 percent. It has now reached 28.4 percent. This is a good result," he remarked after reviewing the MRT Phase 2A construction project in the Monas area, Jakarta, on Friday.

According to Jokowi, construction of the MRT tunnel in the area had also been completed. For the next step, the government will immediately continue the construction of the MRT Phase 2B from Kota to Ancol.

The president is optimistic that the MRT Phase 2 of the HI Roundabout-Ancol would become fully operational in 2027.

"This is not an easy job because they have to work amid the busy traffic in Jakarta. It is also not easy to build an underground tunnel. Overall, the progress has exceeded the target," he remarked.

According to Jokowi, there were no obstacles in the construction of the MRT Phase 2 project.

Regarding construction of the MRT from east to west Jakarta, the president noted that the the calculation process for the project was still underway.

"Everything is still in process. It will be decided immediately right after we finish the calculation, the study, and others. Jakarta really needs integrated mass transportation, not the one that stands alone," he remarked.

MRT Jakarta started operating on March 12, 2019. Until November 2023, it has served more than 3.1 million passengers, with an average of 101,306 people per day, for the Lebak Bulus-HI Roundabout route passing 13 stations.

The MRT Phase 2A will pass seven stations from the HI Roundabout to Kota, with a track length of 5.8 kilometers.
