Ambassador Roeslani said he was glad to receive a visit from Xie Feng, his old colleague, who served as China's Ambassador to Indonesia during the 2014-2017 period.
"Ambassador Xie Feng shared his memorable experience during his term as the ambassador of China to Indonesia from 2014 to 2017. Therefore, I viewed our meeting as a reunion with an old friend," Roeslani noted in a written statement received in Jakarta on Thursday.
While serving as chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce (Kadin) during the 2015-2020 period, Roeslani frequently met with Ambassador Xie to discuss concrete steps aimed at intensifying trade, industrial, and investment relations between both countries.
At the friendly meeting in Washington DC, the two ambassadors also discussed various issues related to both countries' relations in several sectors, especially economic, investment, trade, educational, and cultural sectors, as well as regional issues.
Currently, China is ranked among the biggest foreign investors in Indonesia. According to data provided by the Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), China's investment realization in Indonesia had reached US$5.18 billion in 2022.
This figure marks a significant increase of 63.92 percent as compared to the previous year and constitutes the highest figure in the past decade.
Apart from trade and investment, the two diplomats also discussed cooperation between Indonesia and China related to education and technology, such as digital economy, digital infrastructure, and digital governance.
"We agreed to further boost all the well-established cooperation efforts and strengthen the commitment to promoting the realization of a peaceful region," Ambassador Roeslani affirmed.
