The agency has asked local fishermen to remain alert for waves reaching a height of up to 6 meters in Bali waters.
"We urge fishermen to consider the potential high waves before going fishing," said Cahyo Nugroho, head of the BMKG-Bali Office, on Friday.
The agency warned of possible high waves in the southern part of Bali Strait, Badung Strait, the southern part of Lombok Strait, and the southern part of Bali waters.
Nugroho said the wind blow speed across the waters could reach up to 20 knots or around 37 kilometers per hour. The wind is predicted to blow from the east-south direction.
Bali's waters are part of national shipping routes for vessels plying from Surabaya, East Java, to the eastern parts of Indonesia, while the Bali Strait is a ferry route that connects the islands of Bali and Java, he informed.
The Lombok Strait is a ferry route that links the islands of Bali and Lombok. It is also a sea lane that connects Bali's Benoa Port with several seaports in eastern Indonesian cities, he added.
Indonesia has frequently experienced sea accidents owing to extreme weather and high waves.
Earlier, ANTARA reported that amid high waves in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara, on July 17, a lifeboat capsized in Mauawang Island waters.
A joint team of rescuers evacuated the body of Alex Susanto Salim, a 43-year-old domestic tourist who was on the lifeboat, which sank after it was hit by strong winds and high waves.
The lifeboat belonged to a tourist vessel, MV Kaia. Salim had sailed to Mauawang Island waters for diving.
