According to acting Jakarta governor Heru Budi Hartono, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) sought the implementation of the hybrid system during a limited meeting held to discuss efforts to improve Jakarta's air quality.
"Very soon, we will be calculating the percentage of each OPD (regional apparatus organization) to conduct this hybrid system. Hopefully, we can do that this September," Hartono informed at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Monday.
He said that the employees of OPDs involved in community services will need to work from the office.
Meanwhile, the employees of OPDs that are not related to services, such as planning departments and others, will be able to start work from home, he added.
Hartono said that this work system will need to be implemented within the Jakarta provincial government.
He expressed the hope that ministries/agencies as well as private companies will also implement a hybrid work system.
According to him, talks with private companies on hybrid work have been carried out earlier. He said that he will welcome private companies implementing a 50-50 hybrid working model.
"Some of the companies have already implemented it. However, if their form of business cannot practice a hybrid working system, then it is totally up to them," he added.
At Monday’s meeting, President Widodo said it was necessary to encourage a hybrid working system to reduce air pollution in Jakarta-Bogor-Depok-Tangerang-Bekasi (Jabodetabek) area, which, in the past week, has reached the very bad category.
"If needed, we must encourage offices to implement a hybrid working system. Whether the working hours are 7-5, 2-5, or others," he advised at the beginning of the meeting.
Air quality in Jakarta was ranked the worst in the world on Sunday (August 13, 2023).
Based on data recorded at 6 a.m. local time by air quality monitoring site IQAir, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Jakarta reached 170, or in the unhealthy category, with PM2.5 air pollution.
Given the level of pollution, Jakarta's air quality is expected to remain in the unhealthy category until Tuesday (August 15).
