Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's digital economy has grown rapidly in less than 10 years, according to the Finance Ministry.

"This demonstrates the crucial role played by the digital economy in supporting Indonesia's economic growth," stated Astera Primanto Bhakti, Director General of Fiscal Balance at the ministry, in Jakarta on Wednesday.

During a seminar on "Digitalization in Public Financial Management to Support Financial Sustainability," he emphasized that the digital economy would continue to contribute to national economic growth.

Citing data from the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), he noted that Indonesia's digital economy grew by 414 percent from 2017 to 2021 and is projected to grow by 62 percent from 2021 to 2025.

Indonesia's thriving digital economy has benefited various groups, including the ministry, he added.

Digital transformation has played a significant role in enhancing the ministry's business and organizational processes, making them more evenly distributed.

Furthermore, digital transformation has facilitated the implementation of fiscal policies to support robust economic development, Bhakti said.

He also mentioned that the value of Indonesia's digital economy is projected to reach US$360 billion by 2030. This projection is based on the performance in 2022 when the country's digital economy was recorded at US$77 billion, a 22 percent increase compared to the previous year.

With this value, Indonesia has emerged as a major digital economy player in the region, holding over 40 percent of the ASEAN market share.

The government has initiated several programs, such as the Digital Talent Scholarship and the Digital Leadership Academy, to support the potential of the digital economy.

Recently, while addressing the G20 Digital Economy Ministers' Meeting (DEMM) in India, Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi urged G20 members to continue collaborating to realize global digital transformation.
