Jakarta (ANTARA) - Stanford University's plan to build its school of sustainability in the new capital city (IKN) Nusantara would be a breakthrough in the education sector, IKN's authority (OIKN) stated.

"Yes, (this school) could be a breakthrough in the education sector," OIKN's Deputy for Financing and Investment Agung Wicaksono remarked in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He noted that the United States-based university had submitted a Letter of Intent (LoI) to build the school to the authority, adding that the university's alumni in Indonesia have demonstrated their support for the discourse on the school's development.

Wicaksono revealed that the university had submitted the LoI in connection with its intent to build its sustainability school, or Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability, in the new capital city, which is being developed in East Kalimantan Province.

He then remarked that the authority gladly welcomed the university's intent and lauded the nation's children for their commitment and care for the development of the country's new capital city.

OIKN has received and signed the LoI with the management of the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability.

Head of OIKN Bambang Susantono warmly welcomed the LoI and is looking forward to witnessing the development of the forged educational cooperation.

Meanwhile, Dean of Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability Arun Majumdar admitted to being impressed by the progress in development of Nusantara.

Majumdar expressed his respect and joy for having the opportunity to take part in the project that he describes as an ambitious one.

He explained that the university selected Indonesia to build the sustainability school, considering the country's important role in lowering global carbon emissions, added to the fact that the Indonesian government has expressed its commitment to achieving the emission-free target by 2060.
