"Thus, of the 256 thousand hectares that will be developed in the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) project, only 25 percent, or some 160 thousand hectares, will be built as city area, while the rest 65 percent is tropical forest. The city combines inclusivity, eco-friendliness, and high resilience," Susantono stated at a discussion accessed here on Wednesday.
The discussion was centered around culture and conservation in Nusantara City's forest city concept.
He noted that Indonesia was once accused of conducting deforestation. Hence, development of the city is backed up with thorough concept that includes reforestation, which would align with the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision.
"We also see IKN as an abbreviation for Investment, Knowledge, and Nature because we believe that to create a sustainable forest city, there will be many new concepts that will complete each other, and we know that there will be something good in it," he remarked.
He noted that the city's development is in line with several global targets, such as anticipating climate change through Locally Determined Contribution -- part of the National Determined Contribution -- in a bid to create a city with low carbon footprint and climate resilience in the future.
The city's development is also in line with biodiversity, one of the global targets, as the city is capable of absorbing carbon and pushing for reforestation as well as maintaining the wealth of flora and fauna, he affirmed.
Nusantara City must become the center of civilization for future generations, he stressed.
"Hence, we have to think and plan thoroughly: What kind of culture will be relevant to them (future generations) in 2045? We have to prepare those," he emphasized.
He also remarked that Nusantara City will be a smart city that adheres to Indonesia's values.
"Apart from (the steps) to support the environment and developing smart living, smart working, and smart learning, everything, of course, must be in accordance with our Indonesian values; becoming a green, positive living lab and also maintaining harmony among humankind, nature, and culture," he concluded.
