Jakarta (ANTARA) - First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo on Wednesday inaugurated the 2023 KriyaNusa, a national-level crafts exhibition, at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC).

According to a statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday afternoon, the KriyaNusa is an annual event held by the National Crafts Council (Dekranas) with the objective of promoting craft products from all Indonesian regions.

"Bismillahirrahmanirrahim, today, I officially open the 2023 KriyaNusa national crafts exhibition," the First Lady remarked on Wednesday.

At the exhibition, the First Lady and Second Lady Wury Ma'ruf Amin, who is serving as the chairperson of Dekranas, presented the Dekranas Awards.

Meanwhile, Sri Suparni, chairperson of the 2023 KriyaNusa's organizing committee, explained that the exhibition, which will last until September 17, is part of the national council's efforts to build the skills and capacity of local craft players.

"This exhibition is one of Dekranas' concrete actions aimed at building the capacity of craft business actors, so they can continue to create and develop local craft products while preserving the cultural beauty of all regions in Indonesia," she said.

According to Suparni, the 2023 KriyaNusa features as many as 307 stalls representing regional craft councils, ministries, and agencies. She said that the exhibition is being held to boost the competitiveness of local craftspersons and push them to develop and display the most iconic products from their regions.

She then expressed the hope that the national exhibition will prompt related business actors to continue catching up with the latest popular designs to suit market demands.

On the occasion, the First Lady, along with members of the Onward Indonesian Cabinet Era Solidarity Action Organization (OASE KIM), enjoyed dances and song performances as well as a fashion show performed by the Jakarta regional crafts council.

After the exhibition's opening ceremony, the First Lady also paid a visit to a number of stalls displaying local craft products.
