Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy has proposed that the National Museum of Indonesia be designated a national vital object so that it can get maximum protection.

"The ministry, through the minister's expert staff, proposes for cultural assets, such as the National Museum and its collection, to be established as national vital objects to get strict and maximum protection," the ministry's tourism and creative economy main expert, Nia Niscahya, said.

Speaking at "The Weekly Brief with Sandi Uno" online discussion on Monday, Niscahya affirmed that after the fire at the National Museum of Indonesia on Saturday (September 16, 2023) night, her ministry has taken several steps.

One has been coordinating with the Directorate General of Cultural Affairs at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology to ensure security for assets at the museum and to support the police in carrying out an investigation into the incident.

The ministry has committed to maintaining the continuity of tourism in the country through a number of tourism and creative economy events that are environmentally and socially responsible.

In addition, ensuring that the preservation of tourist areas is continued has also been deemed important.

She informed that Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno will also participate in a meeting held by Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Minister Nadiem Anwar Makarim to discuss future actions.

"Fire must not ever occur again. The director general of cultural affairs hopes that museum transformation action in Indonesia is not postponed," she said.

On Monday, she also discussed the recent fire in the Mount Bromo area of East Java, which caused ecological damage.

The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy expressed concern for business and creative economy actors affected by the incident.

Her side is also encouraging evaluations to improve fire disaster mitigation in all tourist areas in Indonesia.

She stressed that the aspect of visitor safety is the most important thing to pay attention to.

"This incident could not have happened if we knew the dos and don'ts and weren't negligent," she added.
