Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin has urged the Islamic Economic Community (MES) to continue to exert significant efforts to develop a suitable ecosystem for Islamic economy and finance in Indonesia.

The Vice President conveyed this while receiving a visit from the management of MES at the Vice Presidential Palace, Jakarta, on Friday, according to his spokesperson, Masduki Baidlowi.

"(The VP asked) this organization to continue to enhance its productivity in the hopes of producing new entrepreneurs that will lead to the establishment of a kind of ecosystem in which Muslim communities are active in trade activities," Baidlowi said, citing the Vice President.

The spokesperson informed that VP Amin believes that an enabling ecosystem for Islamic economy and finance is essential for realizing Indonesia's ambition to become the leading halal products-producing country in the world.

"According to Mr. Vice President, MES serves as one of the pillars that support the realization of that aspiration," he added.

Furthermore, he explained that during the meeting, which lasted for an hour, VP Amin and the representatives of MES discussed the plans of the economic organization for the future as well as its preparations for holding its 6th National Conference. The conference is scheduled to take place on Sunday (October 1, 2023).

"On Sunday, MES will hold a national conference, where the new management of the organization will be inaugurated," he informed.

Meanwhile, secretary-general of MES, Iggi Haruman Achsien, said that his party optimized the meeting to directly convey its invitation to the Vice President to attend the upcoming national conference.

Vice President Amin expressed his willingness to participate in the conference, he added.

Apart from Achsien, several members of MES also attended the meeting, including one of its leaders, Friderica Widyasari; a member of its advisory board, Muliaman Hadad; and its treasurer, Herry Gunardi.
