We are very confident that the AIS Forum and Indonesian leadership can achieve many things.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) expressed Indonesia's strong commitment to strengthening solidarity and cooperation among the countries of the Global South in his meeting with Sao Tome and Principe Prime Minister (PM) Patrice Emery Trovoada.

"I am happy that we can meet for the first time," said the President in his first meeting with PM Trovoada in Badung, Bali, on Wednesday, according to a released received here from the Presidential Secretariat's press bureau.

The bilateral meeting was held on the sidelines of the 1st High-Level Meeting of the Archipelagic and Island States (AIS) Forum.

Global South is a term used to refer to developing and less developed countries located in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Oceania.

Meanwhile, PM Trovoada expressed his gratitude for the invitation from Indonesia to Sao Tome and Principe to participate in the AIS Forum Summit.

"I am very happy to be in Bali at this time. Once again thank you for inviting us and allowing us to share our same concerns," he said.

With Indonesia's leadership, this year's AIS Forum will be able to produce a number of agreements, according to PM Trovoada.

He said he believes this is because the archipelagic and island countries attending the summit have a passion for South-South cooperation.

"We are very confident that the AIS Forum and Indonesian leadership can achieve many things because, as you mentioned, we have the spirit of South-South cooperation," he added.

During the meeting, the President was accompanied by Minister of Environment and Forestry, Siti Nurbaya Bakar; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Retno Marsudi; Minister of State Secretary, Pratikno; director general of Asia-Pacific and Africa at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), Abdul Kadir Jailani; and director of the Pacific and Oceania at the MoFA, Adi Dzulfuat.
