IKN's presence will provide potentials of economy and employment in many sectors such as food, tourism, creative industry, services, and others.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Manpower has expressed its commitment to empowering the communities living around Indonesia's new capital, Nusantara (IKN), in East Kalimantan so that they can benefit from the capital's development.

In a statement issued by the ministry on Thursday, Manpower Minister's special staff, Caswiyono Rusydie Cakrawangsa, said that as the new capital, Nusantara will be a center of growth and absorb workers.

"IKN's presence will provide potentials of economy and employment in many sectors, such as food, tourism, creative industry, services, and others," he said while reviewing the Area-Based Job Opportunity Expansion (PKK) program in North Penajam Paser, East Kalimantan, on Thursday.

To boost the competence of workers in the formal sector, his ministry will carry out community empowerment by building a community job training center, he added.

Another effort will be creating entrepreneurs through the Independent Workers (TKM) program in several sectors such as agriculture, food, creative industry, and services.

"We must ensure that the residents of East Kalimantan, and especially residents of Sepaku, can become actors of economy and development," he said.

He informed that his ministry has carried out the area-based PKK program to empower the communities living around the IKN. The program is being carried out at two locations, namely Waru subdistrict and Sepaku subdistrict in North Penajam Paser district, East Kalimantan.

He said that through the program, the Manpower Ministry is integrating entrepreneurship development and training into one ecosystem.

Besides the PKK program, Cakrawangsa reviewed the TKM program in Pemaluan village and Bukitraya village, Sepaku, and the construction of a community job training center in Sukaraja village, Sepaku.

"Those villages are the main supporters of IKN that we encourage so that their residents can play a role in IKN," he remarked.
