Director of Recovery and Improvement of Social, Economic, and Natural Resources of the BNPB Eny Supartini stated here on Saturday that the community empowerment-based approach prepares survivors to gradually return to being ready and enthusiastic to work like before the disaster.
"We are improving infrastructure and systems, but do not forget, an issue that is no less important is the livelihoods of survivors after the disaster, including (how to make them) remain enthusiastic in their jobs, so they do not depend on aid funds forever," she remarked.
She explained that the recovery of survivors' economies after a disaster starts with the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) conducting a study regarding the economic impact experienced by the disaster-affected areas.
Based on this study, the BPBD can then map out plans for meeting the needs of economic recovery.
To ensure the plans are on target, the BNPB added the assistance and verification processes.
Supartini advised the provision of assistance and technical training regarding access to digital markets to be carried out, targeting both groups and individuals.
Regarding the provision of assistance, she advised the BPBD to focus on assisting new or existing micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) as a strategic step to recover the economy of disaster survivors.
"In a new permanent residence (after disaster), economic recovery should start from small things, for example, selling staple goods or snacks. The most important thing is to be able to meet daily needs first," she explained.
To this end, she appealed to the BPBD to use the potential of local commodities in developing MSMEs to obtain added value from the uniqueness of the products.
