Jakarta (ANTARA) - Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Minister Bintang Puspayoga stated that the development of Women-friendly and Child-caring Villages (DRPPA) requires the involvement of all parties, including women figures.

"We want to see the extent to which women can lead and benefit society. If it is not from the women themselves, it is difficult to understand the ideal conditions that are expected based on their experience," Minister Puspayoga remarked here on Thursday.

She said that the involvement of women in the DRPPA is both in terms of being the drivers and beneficiaries of development.

Meanwhile, the ministry initiated the Women-friendly and Child-caring Villages Program in 2021.

The state has mandated equal rights for women and men, she added. However, there are still inequalities, as shown in the Human Development Index, Gender Development Index, and Gender Empowerment Index.

Hence, Puspayoga said, the ministry initiated DRPPA that encourages various programs and policies to support the development of women and children.

The minister noted that the DRPPA is defined as a village that integrates gender perspectives and children's rights into village governance, development, and community empowerment programs.

She noted that the programs in DRPPA are implemented in a planned, comprehensive, and sustainable manner.

The development of DRPPA must involve all parties in the village, including village officials, community figures, traditional leaders, religious leaders, volunteer organizations, cadres, and women and children themselves.

"Therefore, the role of women is very important, especially in mobilizing the community at the grassroots level," she remarked.

The minister stated that the development of DRPPA could bolster efforts to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in villages too.

Statistics Indonesia (BPS) data in 2021 showed that women and children constituted 65.2 percent of the Indonesian population, and 43 percent of them are living in villages.

Thus, the government aims to make DRPPA villages as hubs for realizing great human resources and fulfilling women's and children's rights.
