"We now have Ministerial Regulation No. 31 of 2023, so if TikTok wants to reopen the TikTok Shop, it will follow the regulation," Masduki remarked here on Wednesday.
Referring to Ministerial Regulation No. 31 of 2023, he explained that TikTok should not combine its social media platform with e-commerce in one application.
"They must have an office here and can no longer be a representative office and must be a legalized company in Indonesia," he remarked.
According to President Joko Widodo's directive, he said, TikTok was also urged to develop a sustainable business model.
"We will think how to make their business sustainable (by adding) policies related to the platform and e-commerce," he stated.
TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew had earlier requested to meet with President Widodo after the Indonesian government decided to close the TikTok Shop platform.
However, President Jokowi said that Shou can first meet with Minister Masduki to discuss the continuation of TikTok Shop in Indonesia.
"I really see the president's concern because micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are the most impacted by the e-commerce. I was asked to receive TikTok (visit)," he stated.
He did not reveal the date or details that will be discussed at the meeting.
"We will certainly meet, as the president has assigned me," he remarked.
Following the closure of TikTok Shop, Masduki urged MSMEs that were earlier conducting trade activities on TikTok Shop to switch to alternative online shopping platforms.
He ensured that the government's decision on TikTok Shop is not aimed at hindering MSME businesses.
