In a statement on Monday, she also underlined the agency's commitment to continue to participate in joint initiatives aimed at maintaining the Research Moored Array for Africa-Asia-Australia Monsoon Analysis and Prediction (RAMA) system, which has collected data since 2015.
"BMKG, as a member of the Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS) Steering Committee, fully supports various activities related to strengthening coordination and enhancing the global network of ocean observation systems to achieve strategic direction for the GOOS data buoy program," she said.
She expressed hope that the 39th session of the Data Buoy Cooperation Panel (DBCP-39) would discuss the latest advances in ocean observation systems, scientific research, and practical applications.
The session is also expected to show the progress that has been achieved and develop a roadmap to overcome several critical challenges ranging from climate change to extreme weather events, marine biodiversity, ocean health, and other topics that have relevance to the welfare of the world community.
Meanwhile, head of the Education and Training Center of BMKG, Nelly Florida Riama, said that DBCP is a forum for sharing knowledge, experiences, and thoughts about using buoy data, as well as collecting and sharing weather and marine data.
Throughout its history, DBCP has been consistent in serving the community, and it is very important that all members agree to be owners of the panel and take responsibility to grow and develop together to understand the ocean and atmosphere, she noted.
"By sharing data, we not only fulfill our obligations, but also provide avenues for valuable research because buoy data can be used as input data for weather modeling, increasing the accuracy of weather forecasts and, of course, contributing to reducing disaster risk," Riama explained.
