Jakarta (ANTARA) - Some 32 work packages of the Nusantara development project use the design-and-build method, the Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Ministry stated here on Thursday.

"There are 32 construction work packages with the design-and-build method of the total 85 physical work packages in Nusantara," Head of Construction Safety Management System of the Nusantara Infrastructure Development Task Force Trisasongko Widianto remarked here on Thursday.

Widianto explained that the ministry has divided the 85 work packages into two batches.

Batch 1 comprises physical work contracts signed before March 2023, while Batch 2 consists of physical work packages, with contracts inked after March 2023.

"In Batch 1, there are 27 conventional construction work packages and 13 packages with the design-and-build method," Widianto revealed.

Meanwhile, Batch 2 has 26 work packages with conventional methods and 19 design-and-build work packages.

Nusantara development projects that use the design-and-build method, include the presidential palace and ceremonial square, the presidential office building, the ministerial zone 1, the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), and the Central Government Core Area (KIPP).

Moreover, the design-and-build method projects also include the integrated waste treatment site in KIPP, the water treatment plant with a capacity of 300 liters per second, and supporting buildings for the drinking water supply system (SPAM).

The design-and-build concept is a delivery system that combines the design and construction phases into a single contract.

This method was first applied in the 20th century in response to the need for collaboration, efficiency, and flexibility in construction project management in order to cut time and costs and reduce conflict between design and construction teams.

The innovative method implemented in the Nusantara development projects can help synchronize the timeline of and identify critical points in the work packages, Widianto stated.
