Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated the opening of the International Football Federation (FIFA) office in Jakarta on Friday.

"FIFA's decision to build a permanent Asia-hub office in Jakarta shows that Indonesia has big potential to advance its football development at the global level," he affirmed.

He also emphasized the government's commitment to FIFA President Gianni Infantino to always support and facilitate the federation in improving the integrity and quality of Indonesian football.

The president then echoed the country's readiness to work together in developing adequate sports infrastructure as well as training, educating, and developing young Indonesian footballers.

The government will also facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience between Indonesia and the world football community, he remarked.

"On this occasion, I convey my deepest gratitude to FIFA for their trust and commitment to Indonesian football and also for their enormous support for our football," the head of state remarked.

Jokowi expressed hope that FIFA's presence in Jakarta would be the first step to realize more achievements for Indonesian football, improve the quality of competition throughout the country, inspire young people to achieve their dreams, strengthen sportsmanship, and conquer the world.

“Once again, thank you President Infantino for your contribution to the development of Indonesian football. Thank you for your trust in Indonesia for hosting the U-17 World Cup as well. Hopefully, this can be the first step to hold more FIFA events in Indonesia," Jokowi stated.

Apart from opening an office in Indonesia, FIFA has also helped the Indonesian government with the construction of a national football team training center at the new capital city (IKN) Nusantara, with funding amounting to Rp85.6 billion.

The training center aims to accommodate and improve the skills of Indonesian young footballers to compete in international championships.

The facility was built on an area of 34.5 hectares, equipped with eight fields and various other supporting facilities that are integrated with the IKN development.
