Jakarta (ANTARA) - The 17th ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting (ADMM) in Jakarta concluded on Wednesday with the agreement on eight documents, including the Jakarta Joint Declaration.

Indonesian Defense Minister, Prabowo Subianto, the meeting's chair, handed over the Jakarta Joint Declaration document to ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn.

Other documents agreed at the meeting were:
  • a concept paper on the implementation of the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP) from a defense perspective;
  • a concept paper on harmonization of ADMM and ADMM-Plus Initiatives;
  • a paper discussion regarding the use of military assets to support food security in the region;
  • the ADMM Work Program for the 2023-2026 Period;
  • guidelines to implement observer status granted to Timor-Leste for ADMM, ADMM-Plus, and other related meetings;
  • a draft revision of ASEAN Our Eyes standard operational procedures;
  • the ADMM-Plus joint statement on women, peace, and security.
Subianto emphasized the importance of ADMM as a tool for building cooperation in the defense sector between ASEAN member countries.

He highlighted its role in addressing security challenges through meaningful dialogue, exchange of ideas, and the establishment of partnerships based on mutual trust, transparency, and collaboration.

"This meeting can also be a catalyst for achieving tangible results," he remarked.

He emphasized that a united ASEAN was the key to creating a safer, more prosperous, and more resilient ASEAN community.

Defense ministers from all ASEAN member states attended the meeting, except for Myanmar. They were:
  • General Tea Seiha from Cambodia;
  • Chansamone Chanyalath from Laos;
  • Ng Eng Hen from Singapore;
  • Gilberto C. Teodoro, Jr. from the Philippines;
  • Dato Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan from Malaysia;
  • Sutin Klangsang from Thailand;
  • General Phan Van Giang from Vietnam;
  • Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Ret) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof from Brunei Darussalam.
Timor-Leste attended the meeting as an observer, represented by Defense Minister Donaciano Do Rosario Da Costa Gomes.
