"It is true that we have detained two terror suspects. One in Palu, while the other in Semarang," spokesperson of the special team, Grand Commissioner Aswin Siregar, confirmed in Jakarta on Thursday.
The police officer noted that the suspect apprehended in Palu on Tuesday (November 14), identified by the initials as MA, is a member of the Jamaah Anshor Daulah terrorist group led by Abu Oemar.
"The suspect (arrested) in Central Sulawesi is related to AO's (Abu Oemar's) group," Siregar remarked, adding that Oemar's group is a supporter of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
Meanwhile, he said, the suspect arrested in Semarang on Wednesday (November 15), with the initials HS, is a member of another terrorist group, Jamaah Islamiyah.
Earlier, during the October-November period this year, the anti-terror team successfully arrested a total of 42 people allegedly involved in the activities of Abu Oemar's group in several regions.
Two of them, identified by their initials as AH and DAM, were apprehended on November 1 in West Java, while the rest were arrested on October 27 and October 28.
Meanwhile, during the period from October 2 to October 23 of 2023, Densus 88 managed to arrest 19 members of Jamaah Islamiyah. However, Siregar noted that the suspect recently arrested in Semarang on Wednesday was not related to the 19 suspects.
"The one (arrested) in Central Java is unrelated to those arrested in October," he remarked.
Currently, investigators are working intensively to collect information from the arrested suspects to track down other related figures, he stated.
"We all hope that the security condition in Indonesia will remain conducive and be under control. Densus 88 will not stop monitoring the activities of terrorist groups," he affirmed.
