Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi announced on Monday that she will attend the High-Level Debate at the United Nations Security Council in New York on November 29 to discuss the situation in Gaza, Palestine.

"We will depart for New York this afternoon to attend the High-Level Debate at the UN Security Council," she informed the House of Representatives (DPR) during a working meeting in Jakarta.

Marsudi said that several foreign ministers from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member countries will also attend the meeting.

She affirmed that the OIC foreign ministers deemed it essential to have in place a more comprehensive and stronger UN Security Council resolution.

"Specifically, for the establishment of a permanent ceasefire and to facilitate the smooth delivery of aid," she stated.

Marsudi explained that while the UN Security Council Resolution Number 2712, issued on November 15, calling for a humanitarian pause is a positive step, it is insufficient to alleviate the current conflict situation in Gaza.

She emphasized that international pressure should remain constant to achieve immediate de-escalation of the conflict in Gaza.

"The UN Security Council bears a moral responsibility to uphold security and peace and to champion justice and humanity," she stated.

Marsudi also highlighted Indonesia's unwavering commitment to supporting the Palestinian struggle for independence, as mandated by the Constitution, which calls for the abolition of colonialism worldwide.

She affirmed that Indonesia would utilize the current momentum to prevent further casualties in the Gaza conflict.

"And use this momentum as a driving force to promote the peace process towards realizing a two-state solution and achieving lasting peace in Palestine in accordance with agreed-upon international parameters," she stated.

She reiterated the need for Indonesia to continue overseeing the realization of justice and accountability, including holding Israel accountable for its violations of international law.

"As well as providing appropriate reparations and international support to assist Palestine in its recovery and infrastructure reconstruction," Marsudi added.
