Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia urged the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to act firmly in response to the deaths of hundreds of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip killed by Israeli troops while waiting for humanitarian aid.

Through the Foreign Ministry's official account on X, formerly Twitter, Saturday, Indonesia strongly condemned the Israeli massacre on Thursday (February 29) in which more than 100 civilians in Gaza were killed.

Indonesia also criticized the UNSC, whom it believed had responded too leniently to the Israeli military aggression in the Gaza Strip. Indonesia urged the Security Council to issue an immediate ceasefire order.

"Is this humanitarian tragedy not enough for the UN Security Council to agree on a resolution to call for a ceasefire?" as stated by the ministry.

Indonesia reminded the UN Security Council that no country should be above international law and could freely disregard the international order.

Moreover, Indonesia appealed to other countries to immediately stop supplying aid to Israel that enables it to continue its aggression in the Gaza Strip.

"Indonesia urges all countries to end the supply of arms to Israel for the sake of justice and humanity," the ministry stated.

At least 115 Palestinians were killed, while 760 others were injured when Israel shelled the crowd of civilians waiting for humanitarian aid in the southern part of Gaza City on Thursday.

According to witnesses, hundreds of residents were awaiting aid near Dowar al-Nablusi when Israeli troops suddenly opened fire on them.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military claimed that most deaths were caused by a stampede in the crowd and being hit by aid-carrying trucks.

Israel also said that their troops gave only warning shots aimed at the Palestinian civilians' feet to stop them from approaching the Israeli checkpoint from which the aid trucks arrived.

Israeli military aggression in Gaza since October 7, 2023, has caused the deaths of at least 30,035 Palestinians and injuries to more than 70 thousand others.

The United Nations stated that the Israeli action forced the displacement of 85 percent of civilians in Gaza, caused damages to 60 percent of the enclave's infrastructure, and triggered a severe shortage of food, clean water, and medicine.
