Kuching, Malaysia (ANTARA) - Vice President of Indonesia Ma'ruf Amin expressed that Indonesia is keen to have a special committee in place to deal with sharia economics and finance at the global level.

"Hence, the meaning is very big (the potential for global sharia economic cooperation), if it is developed. I think that is and we want there to be some kind of global committee," Vice President Amin noted in Kuching, Malaysia, Wednesday.

The vice president expressed optimism in response to questions regarding the results of the 2023 Global Muslim Business Forum in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia, Tuesday (Nov 28) evening.

Amin is upbeat that holding the 2023 Global Muslim Business Forum will help to strengthen cooperation between various countries in sharia economics and finance.

According to the vice president, Indonesia can continue to play a role in developing a sharia economics committee at the global level, considering the huge potential of sharia economics in the country.

Currently, Indonesia already has a National Sharia Economic and Financial Committee (KNEKS) at the national level that is led directly by President Joko Widodo. At the regional level, Indonesia also has a Regional Sharia Economic and Financial Committee (KDEKS) led by the regional head.

"Our KNEKS in Indonesia is national, but the international committee, that is where we can develop it," he stated.

He expressed hope that the 2023 Global Muslim Business Forum would also strengthen support for sharia economic development, especially the halal industry between countries, such as by reducing barriers to trade in halal products across countries.

"Both in the sense of regulations relating to exports and imports as well as halal standardization, where there may be differences, it could become a barricade," he stated.
