The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) National Focal Point for Indonesia Laksmi Dhewanthi stated here on Thursday that the first issue is the global stocktake.
Dhewanthi remarked that governments across the world are awaiting the global stocktake report that resulted from the Paris Agreement.
"This is an input for all to accelerate activities, whether it is mitigation, climate finance commitments, or adaptation," she stated.
COP28 is being held from November 30 to December 12, 2023. COP28 is a defining moment to act on climate commitments and avert the worst impacts of climate change, Dhewanthi remarked.
She said the second crucial issue is climate change mitigation. Delegations of participating countries in COP28 will discuss the mandate that resulted from the COP27 that took place in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, last year.
They will speak about the timeline and programs to ensure that climate change mitigation goals can be achieved.
Moreover, the delegates will discuss about the world program on just transition pathway.
"Just transition for all climate change actions, including how just transition can ensure that climate change does not treat development agendas as less important, such as gender equality and so on," Dhewanthi stated.
The third crucial issue is climate change adaptation. Last year, in Sharm el-Sheikh, participating countries agreed on the need for funds for handling social, economic, and environmental losses and damages due to climate change.
Lastly, the fourth issue to be discussed is climate financing. There are several topics related to this issue, namely long-term climate financing, fulfillment of past climate funding commitments, and new collective quantified goals on climate finance.
