The Indonesian government will present its progress of climate action and extensive efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the forestry, energy, industry, waste to agriculture and livestock sectors.Dubai (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) arrived in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, to attend opening of the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) and convey Indonesia's national statement on policies and commitments in overcoming climate change.
Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya Bakar stated that President Jokowi arrived in Dubai on Thursday afternoon (November 30), and last evening, she and Jokowi discussed about the agenda plan for Friday.
"Some of the events (that the president will participate in) include the official opening of the World Climate Action Summit of COP28 of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the national statement," she remarked.
The minister affirmed that the president will attend the multilateral forum like the G77 and a meeting with Norway's prime minister, in addition to speaking on the issue of food system transformation and climate change challenges.
Other important topics, including cooperation and implementation agendas, were also brought up in the discussion, Bakar remarked.
President Jokowi will speak on the implementation of policies and agendas that should be followed up operationally at the cabinet level.
The COP28 is being held at Expo City Dubai, the UAE, from November 30 to December 12, 2023.
All countries participating in the UNFCCC are there to present their achievements in climate action and agree on commitments to curb climate change.

The Ministry of Environment and Forestry reported that Indonesia's carbon emissions were recorded at 1.84 gigatons of carbon dioxide equivalent in 2019 and then decreased to 1.05 gigatons in 2020, 1.14 gigatons in 2021, and 1.20 gigatons in 2022.
