Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian para weightlifters clinched two gold medals at the 2023 World Abilitysport Games (WAG) in Thailand, thereby adding up to the Indonesia contingent's gold tally to reach 12 so far.

The two golds were contributed by Abdul Hadi and Margono, according to a statement released by the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) here on Thursday.

Hadi, who competed in the men's 49 kg category, won a gold after lifting a total of 325 kg.

In his first attempt, Hadi successfully lifted 160 kg, which was the heaviest recorded among the other participants. However, he failed in the second lift of 165 kg.

In the third lift, Hadi of West Kalimantan succeeded in lifting barbell, weighing 165 kg, thereby pocketing a total weight of 325 kg, which became the highest total among all participants.

Meanwhile, Margono competed in the men's 65 kg category in which he performed well and recorded the best total weight.

The athlete from Central Java successfully executed three weight challenges. Margono was able to lift a weight of 158 kg followed by the second weight of 161 kg and thereafter 165 kg in the third attempt.

The success of lifting the three weights made Margono the gold medal winner, where he contributed the 12th gold for the Red and White contingent at WAG 2023.

Indonesia's gold medals at the 2023 WAG in Thailand were also contributed by para swimmer Jendi Pangabean, who bagged two golds, and para cyclists -- Sufyan Saori, Muhammad Fadli Immamuddin, and Tifan Abid Alana -- who contributed one gold each.

Saori recorded the best time of 2 hours, 9 minutes, and 57.264 seconds.

Hanik Puji Hastuti from the shooting branch also clinched her first gold in the international sports event.
