"In the program, literacy on the use of AI is one of the focuses of the Kominfo Ministry. Thus, literacy on AI is part of the digital literacy movement," he informed in a statement released by the ministry on Thursday.
The ministry has consistently implemented the basic digital literacy program GNLD since 2017, and, as of November 7, 2023, as many as 5,923,983 people across Indonesia have participated in the program.
According to Patria, through the GNLD, his ministry is targeting to make the public more aware of the impact and potential of AI utilization.
Besides the GNLD, the Kominfo Ministry is also providing digital talent training to people at the intermediate and leadership levels.
For example, for the intermediate level, the ministry is offering the Digital Talent Scholarship (DTS) program.
"The Digital Talent Scholarship (DTS) program is present to provide training on digital technology skills such as artificial big data analytics and digital marketing," he said.
The ministry is currently preparing to devise an appropriate regulation so that AI utilization can be made optimal in Indonesia.
Academics and industry players have been roped in to formulate the regulation so that it can provide optimal benefits.
"Regulating AI is inevitable and involves so many parties who have the same concerns," he said.
The ministry is also planning to issue a Circular on Ethical Guidelines for the Use of AI, which will serve as a reference for business players who use AI technology.
"The Kominfo Ministry feels it is time to issue this circular before moving on to a more comprehensive regulatory framework. Because we don't want to limit innovation, let it continue. What we are doing now is maximizing the benefits and minimizing the risks," Patria said.
Even though the guidelines will not be legally enforced, business players who utilize AI are expected to comply with them and refer to the aspects of inclusivity, transparency, security, democracy, and accountability.
