The suspects were arrested during the Langkat police's anti-drug raids between September and November this year, Langkat Police Chief Adjunct Sen. Coms. Faisal Rahmat Husein Simatupang stated.
The crystal methamphetamine and cannabis packages that would be sold to drug users in Langkat District, North Sumatra Province, had been destroyed, he remarked.
"We are committed to continuing our fight against drug traffickers in Langkat," he noted while emphasizing that drug crimes are the common enemy of the state and people.
In its ongoing war on drugs, the North Sumatra police conducted joint raids with the neighboring provinces of Aceh, Riau, and West Sumatra.
ANTARA reported earlier that Aceh remains in a state of emergency over drug trafficking, with transnational and interprovincial drug rings still active despite ongoing crackdowns.
Aceh police and the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) have continued to crack down on local drug kingpins and their supply networks over the past few years.
Looking at the evidence of drug crimes that the local police and BNN officers have frequently seized, cannabis and crystal methamphetamine seem to be the most commonly trafficked drugs.
On October 11, 2023, the Aceh police destroyed 112 kg of crystal methamphetamine that local cops seized from arrested members of an international drug ring.
Over the past 10 months of this year, the Aceh police reportedly handled 1,213 drug cases with 1,635 suspects, of whom 34 were women.
The local police confiscated 334.4 kg of dried marijuana, 132.6 kg of crystal meth, and 1,890 ecstasy pills from the 1,635 suspects.
