Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Police (Polri) will deploy 70,350 personnel to secure the Christmas and New Year celebrations through Operation Lilin (Candle) 2023, a police official said on Monday.

Police Chief Commissioner Nurul Azizah, Polri's Head of Public Information, said that of the 70,350 personnel, 988 will be deployed from the Police Headquarters in Jakarta, while the remaining officers will be drawn from regional police forces across Indonesia.

She stated that the police will also invite other institutions to take part in the operation, such as the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI), the Ministry of Transportation, the Ministry of Health, and the local governments.

Azizah explained that Operation Lilin 2023 also involves security personnel from other institutions, such as the National Disaster Mitigation Agency.

"In addition to the 70,350 police personnel, 52,414 personnel from related agencies will also be involved," she stated.

She added that the number of personnel may increase depending on operational demands.

Azizah remarked that Operation Lilin will last for 12 days, from December 22, 2023, to January 2, 2024.

"Before it starts, the preparations of Operation Lilin will be held on December 21," she remarked.

The cross-sectoral meeting, led by Polri Chief Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo and attended by TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto, included participation from several ministers and representatives from government agencies.
