It is estimated that 4.03 million passengers will travel via the 20 AP II airports during this period, an increase of 8 percent compared to the Christmas 2022 and New Year 2023.Jakarta (ANTARA) - State-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II (AP II) and airlines are working to ensure the availability of flight seats during the upcoming Christmas and New Year travel period.
Acting president director of AP II, Wendo Asrul Rose, affirmed here on Monday that AP II, which manages 20 airports in Indonesia, is ready to serve passengers during the year-end holiday period from December 18, 2023, to January 4, 2024.
"It is estimated that 4.03 million passengers will travel via the 20 AP II airports during this period, an increase of eight percent compared to the Christmas 2022 and New Year 2023," he said.
To anticipate this, AP II has coordinated with stakeholders, especially airlines, to ensure the availability of passenger seats.
"We have coordinated with the airlines and ensured flight seat availability from December 18, 2023, to January 4, 2024, at 20 airports," he disclosed.
As per the latest data, there are at least 4.38 million seats for passengers at the 20 airports during the holiday period.
"This number is very adequate to serve the number of airline passengers that is estimated to reach 4.03 million," he noted.
AP II has received requests for 2,833 extra flights from airlines, comprising 2,737 domestic flights and 96 international flights.
"We will ensure the flight time slots at the AP II airports for airlines to operate regular flights and extra flights during Christmas and New Year. There are five airports that will extend their operating hours," Rose said.
Supadio Airport in Pontianak, Minangkabau Airport in Padang, and Kertajati Airport in West Java will also extend their operational timings to 15 hours during the year-end homecoming flow.
Meanwhile, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang is expected to be the busiest during the period.
