The Company Performance Rating Assessment Program, or Proper, is one of the ministry's efforts to encourage companies to carry out environmental management with measurable indicators.
Muchtazar said that this is the second Green Proper award for the company, and it demonstrates its commitment to helping cut the intensity of carbon emissions by 50 percent by 2035 and realize the net-zero emissions target by 2050.
The second award is proof of the management's seriousness in encouraging the acceleration of efforts to reduce the company's carbon footprint and support the well-being of local communities in its mining operational areas, he added.
Hengjaya Mineralindo carries out its sustainable strategy by seeking innovations that can help overcome climate and development challenges.
For this, it is taking steps such as ensuring energy efficiency, reducing emissions, managing non-hazardous waste, reducing hazardous waste, conserving water, and managing biodiversity.
These environmental programs are not only being carried out internally, but also externally by involving local communities.
Muchtazar said that the environmental programs run by his company are developed and evaluated continuously to ensure to prevent pollution or damage to the land and water environmental ecosystems in the company's mining areas.
"We work together internally and externally to realize good environmental management in accordance with the regulations that apply in Indonesia. We also encourage employees to innovate in the environmental sector so that changes can occur in a good way," he said.
The Proper Award aims to increase the role of companies in encouraging measurable environmental management practices and to motivate them to fulfill environmental regulations.
On December 20, 2023, the ministry held an awards ceremony for the Proper and regional environmental management performance at the Niagara Hotel in South Jakarta.
According to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, 3,694 companies participated in the Proper program in 2023. The number of participating companies grew 15.43 percent this year from 3,200 companies last year.
A total of 79 companies received Gold Proper, 196 Green Proper, 2,131 Blue Proper, and 1,077 Red Proper ratings. Meanwhile, the Black Proper category does not exist, and the names of as many as 211 companies were not announced because they had problems with the law and were not operating.
Deputy Minister of Environment and Forestry, Alue Dohong, said the Proper award aims to encourage industry compliance with laws and regulations associated with environmental management.
The Proper rating is divided into two categories, namely "compliance" (Blue, Red, Black), and "beyond compliance" (Gold and Green). The highest rating is Gold and the lowest rating is Black.
