Public Relations Manager of Jabodebek LRT, Mahendro Trang Bawono, explained that the adjustment was made in response to an increase in the number of passengers using the train system during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
"During the Christmas holiday, we recorded an increase in the average number of daily Jabodebek LRT passengers. For that reason, we decided to make an adjustment to today's schedule and operational time," Bawono remarked in Jakarta on Sunday.
He pointed out that during the Christmas holiday, the number of LRT passengers spiked by 33 percent, with the average figure of daily passengers reaching 29,971 in the December 23–26 period.
In total, he added, the Jabodebek LRT train has served as many as 119,883 people during the Christmas holiday.
He then said that the adjustment made is predicted to further shoot up the number of LRT passengers to 50 thousand on Sunday.
According to him, PT Kai has prepared a number of measures for anticipating a spike in passengers on New Year's Eve, such as enrolling more personnel.
"For the sake of common safety and comfort, KAI appeals to customers of the Jabodebek LRT to keep following applicable rules and regulations at every station and aboard all trains," he said.
He then urged people planning to travel on the train on New Year's Eve against bringing flammable objects, such as firecrackers and fireworks.
"Our personnel will seize such objects if they find passengers bringing them," he concluded.
