Jakarta (ANTARA) - Manpower Minister Ida Fauziyah highlighted that the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) culture is one of the requirements for forming an excellent employment ecosystem.

"One of the important keys in the development of an excellent employment ecosystem is building the OSH culture," Fauziyah noted in a statement from the Manpower Ministry here on Friday.

The minister made the statement while delivering a speech at the 2024 National OSH Month commemoration and inauguration in Gresik, East Java, on Friday.

She assessed that with an excellent OSH culture, the rates of work-related accidents and illnesses can be reduced, which is expected to improve work productivity eventually.

Fauziyah stated that the awareness of implementing OSH at the workplace is still a challenge in Indonesia.

Based on reports from the Workers Social Security Agency (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan), in 2021, some 234,372 work accident cases were reported in 2021; some 298,137 work accidents in 2022; and as of October 2023, some 315,579 work accident cases were reported.

"Therefore, we continue to invite and encourage the company management to apply the OSH Management System consistently in accordance with the law, so that the OSH culture can be engrained in every individual," she remarked.

Fauziyah explained that her ministry had, so far, conducted labor inspection and OSH implementation reforms nationwide.

These reforms are implemented by preparing norms, standards, criteria, and procedures for the OSH sector and increasing guidance and supervision of labor and OSH, especially regarding the rights and obligations of employers and workers.

The other measures are increasing the competence and professionalism of employment supervisors, OSH examiners, OSH human resources, and OSH experts; improving the effectiveness of OSH services; and intensifying OSH dissemination of information and education.

The ministry is also boosting coordination, synergy, and collaboration of OSH forums; improving OSH supervision, information, and service systems; and consistently motivating stakeholders in the employment sector by giving awards.

Minister Fauziyah pressed for the government and all stakeholders in the field of OSH to consistently endeavor to improve the OSH culture and awareness.

Indonesia annually commemorates the National OSH Month from January 12 to February 12.
