Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT MRT Jakarta, the operator of the Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) trains, is targeting to serve 33.672 million passengers in 2024, in line with the Jakarta government's efforts to improve the use of public transportation.

"It means around 92 thousand people per day. The target is based on a study and achievements of Jakarta MRT in 2023," director of operations and maintenance at PT MRT Jakarta, Mega Tarigan, told the press in Jakarta on Friday.

According to her, as against the target of 70 thousand people per day, in late 2023, the ridership of Jakarta MRT reached 91 thousand per day.

Further, Jakarta MRT's on-time performance of 99.44 percent has been one of the key reasons behind the increase in ridership every year.

"Throughout 2023, it was recorded that more than 33 million people used Jakarta MRT services, which shows that more than 91 thousand people used Jakarta MRT per day," she pointed out.

The figure surpassed the initial target of 70 thousand passengers per day, which would translate to around 25 million passengers in a year.

According to Tarigan, to achieve the latest target, PT MRT Jakarta is cooperating with various parties, especially tourism industry players, such as those engaged in the culinary sector, malls, health sector, and education sector.

"The collaboration with a number of feeder public transportation operators also encourages an increase in the ridership," she added.

In terms of figures, feeder public transportation operators contribute around 22 percent to the total ridership of the Jakarta MRT, whose operation was inaugurated in 2019.

On behalf of Jakarta MRT, she expressed her gratitude to the community for their full support and trust in Jakarta MRT services as well as its feeder partners.
