Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government encourages collaboration between ASEAN member countries to create an inclusive digital ecosystem amid complex digitalization challenges.

"Building an inclusive digital ASEAN requires endurance, tenacity, and attention. However, what is most important is steadfast collaboration, mutual support, and the determination to leave no one behind," Mira Tayyiba stated in Singapore, Thursday (Feb 1).

Tayyiba, the secretary general of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kemenkominfo), made the statement at the 4th ASEAN Digital Ministers Meeting 2024: Building Inclusive and Trusted Digital Communities, according to the ministry's press release in Jakarta, Friday.

Tayyiba stated that the recommendations for action presented in the Mid-Term Review of the ASEAN Digital Masterplan (ADM) 2025 will enable an inclusive and trusted digital ecosystem to grow and develop in all ASEAN member countries.

During the meeting, Tayyiba remarked that the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA) has the potential to double the value of the region's digital economy, from US$1 trillion (Rp15.6 trillion) to US$2 trillion (Rp31 trillion) in 2030.

"This promising prospect must be utilized strategically to enable accelerated growth for both ASEAN and its member countries," she stated.

The 4th ASEAN Digital Ministers Meeting 2024 discussed priority issues in the development of digitalization in the ASEAN region, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) governance, cross-border data flows, and cybersecurity.

In facing the complex challenges of digitalization, Tayyiba affirmed that the Indonesian Government is working to ensure that technological disruption does not have the potential to worsen disparities by providing easily accessible, affordable, and reliable digital connectivity as well as developing digital literacy and skills.

In addition, she stated that the government maintains a safe and productive digital space, builds fair and transparent data governance, and protects society from misuse of technology.

She highlighted that Indonesia had launched the Greater Indonesia Satellite (SATRIA)-1 to expand the reach of digital connectivity to remote areas in 2023.

"Indonesia views that digital technology must be a two-way bridge that can be accessed by everyone," she affirmed.

In order to foster an inclusive and trusted digital ecosystem, the Indonesian Government has issued the Personal Data Protection Law in 2022 to Revise the Information and Electronic Transactions Law to provide protection for children who access electronic systems.

"A month ago, Indonesia launched the Digital Indonesia Vision 2045, an initiative that includes Indonesia's strategy towards an inclusive, empowering, and sustainable digital future," Tayyiba stated.
