The Indonesian government has established the Indonesia Water Fund (IWF) to advance investments and the provision of clean water across Indonesia.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing underlined that the establishment of the Global Water Fund is paramount to providing long-term funding for clean water and sanitation initiatives.

"The establishment of Global Water Fund to offer lasting financial support for clean water and sanitation initiatives and water-related disaster financing in developing countries has become critical," the ministry's Director General of Public Works Infrastructure and Housing Finance Herry Trisaputra Zuna stated.

Zuna made the statement at the Designing Global Water Fund Establishment workshop in Jakarta on Monday.

He noted that establishment of the Global Water Fund is expected to tackle the funding gap and support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 6 on clean water and sanitation.

The Indonesian government has established the Indonesia Water Fund (IWF) to advance investments and the provision of clean water across Indonesia.

Zuna noted that the IWF is expected to operate up to US$1 billion of funding for clean water projects.

The Designing Global Water Fund workshop is the fourth workshop organized by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing as a side event of the upcoming 10th World Water Forum, scheduled to be held in Bali on May 18-25, 2024.

The fourth workshop aims to discuss the position, components, and architecture of the Global Water Fund, as a new policy proposal for securing and increasing funding for water infrastructure.

The result that is expected to be achieved in the workshop is the identification of main issues, opportunities, and the best design and practices in the establishment of the Global Water Fund.

The theme of "Designing Global Water Fund Establishment" was chosen on the basis of points resulting from the Sustainable Water Finance sub-theme discussion at the 2nd Stakeholder's Consultation Meeting (SCM) held in October 2023 in Bali.
