Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing stated that the upcoming 10th World Water Forum in Bali in May 2024 can become a platform to seek solutions to handle floods.

"I think this is the role and use of the World Water Forum later, where the World Water Forum will present declarations that must be observed by all parties," the ministry's Director General of Water Resources Bob Arthur Lambogia stated on Tuesday.

Lambogia made the statement at the Road to the 10th World Water Forum: Handle Floods, Reduce Disaster Risks online press conference.

Lambogia noted that the World Water Forum discusses various issues, such as disaster risk reduction and management.

The forum is divided into thematic, political, and regional processes.

"The World Water Forum will discuss a thematic theme on the issues of floods that occur across the world, and what will become the decisions of the World Water Forum must be implemented jointly by all members in the World Water Forum," he remarked.

He also noted that the Zero Delta Q policy can be proposed to be implemented by all.

According to Government Regulation Number 13 of 2017 concerning Amendments to Government Regulation Number 26 of 2008 on National Regional Spatial Planning, the Zero Delta Q policy requires that every building must not increase water discharge into the drainage system.

"Considering that most of the implementation of the Zero Delta Q policy is carried out by regional governments, maybe in the World Water Forum, it can be an issue raised in the political process that this policy must be implemented," he stated.

The 10th World Water Forum, themed "Water for Shared Prosperity," is scheduled for May 18-25, 2024.

There are six subthemes for discussions: water for humans and nature; water security and prosperity; disaster risk reduction and management; governance, cooperation, and hydro diplomacy; sustainable water finance; and knowledge and innovation.

In the forum, Indonesia and other member countries of the World Water Council seek various mechanisms and approaches to tackle issues related to water.
