Jakarta (ANTARA) - The General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) is carrying out supervisory patrol against vote buying ahead of the 2024 General Elections on February 14.

"Since the silence period, the supervisory patrol has been activated, so they (patrol team members) work 24 hours in shifts," Bawaslu member Lolly Suhenty stated here on Monday (February 12).

Suhenty urged the community to report to Bawaslu if they receive money intended for vote buying, especially on election day.

"(People can report) to Bawaslu's social media accounts. There is humasbawaslu or bawaslu.go.id. We also opened a Bawaslu complaint hotline," she stated.

Suhenty remarked that people can report to Bawaslu's social media accounts by tagging the accounts in their posts, which will be checked by the Violation Handling Division of Bawaslu.

She noted that the Public Relations Team of Bawaslu will contact those who reported to investigate the accuracy of the information.

The investigation is also conducted by Bawaslu to gather as much information as possible, so that the types of violations can be studied, she said.

"In the study, we will find out whether any articles (rules) have been violated and so on," Suhenty stated.

She assured that the allegation of vote buying that is investigated by Bawaslu will be processed along with the police and the prosecutor's office through the Integrated Law Enforcement Center (Sentra Gakkumdu).

Suhenty expressed optimism that participants of the 2024 General Elections would not engage in vote buying.

Indonesia will hold the General Elections, with around 204.8 million voters expected to participate. The political campaigning period started on November 28, 2023, and ended on February 10, 2024, followed by a silence period on February 11-13, 2024.

During the elections, Indonesians will elect a president and vice president as well as members of the House of Representatives (DPR), Regional Representatives Council (DPD), and Regional Legislative Councils (DPRD) at the province, city, and district levels.

Three pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates contesting the elections are Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar, Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka, and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD.
