The government will provide Rp15 million (US$960) for mildly damaged homes, Rp30 million (US$1.9 thousand) for homes with moderate damage, and Rp60 million (US$3.8 thousand) for each house that sustained severe damage in the disaster.
Demak (ANTARA) - The government will provide compensation to residents whose homes have been damaged by floods in Demak district, Central Java, head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), Lieutenant General Suharyanto, informed.

"Of course, the government will give compensation for affected houses based on the level of damage, from mild, moderate, and severe," he assured while inspecting the removal of floodwaters in Wonorejo village, Karanganyar sub-district, Demak, on Wednesday.

He said that the government will provide Rp15 million (US$960) for mildly damaged homes, Rp30 million (US$1.9 thousand) for homes with moderate damage, and Rp60 million (US$3.8 thousand) for each house that sustained severe damage in the disaster.

Suharyanto added that the government will also pay attention to around four thousand hectares of farmland affected by floods in Indonesia.

"Note that the government provided relief funds for farmers experiencing crop failures in 2023. The government has also held a ministerial meeting to discuss the distribution of similar aid for this year's period," he said.

He informed that during the meeting, the government agreed to appoint state insurance company Jasindo to provide insurance to farmers affected by crop failures, noting that the Ministry of Agriculture will decide on the technical implementation of the plan.

As for handling the flooding in Wonorejo village, he added, the government has deployed a total of 24 water pumps to expedite the removal of water.

"Each pump have a capacity of 250 liters per second. If we use such machines on a massive scale, we surely will be able to accelerate the water subsidence to save residences, transportation routes, and rice fields," he affirmed.

He further informed that the government is currently collecting data on the exact value of losses caused by the floods, expressing the hope that the government's efforts will minimize the impacts of the disaster.
