"We need to showcase our work at the global level. What we have done here is meaningful," Nurbaya stated at the opening of the Norway Phase 1 Result Based Contribution (RBC) Workshop in Jakarta on Thursday.
The minister revealed that Indonesia had received support from various international communities to achieve climate targets, including collaboration with Norway for funding based on performance in lowering GHG emissions from reducing deforestation and forest degradation.
In October 2022, Norway had paid performance-based funding of US$56 million, or around Rp876 billion. The second payment of US$10 million, or equivalent to Rp1.56 trillion, was carried out in December 2023.
In addition, the third payment amounting to US$156 million, or around Rp2.4 trillion, was done last January.
Meanwhile, the fourth funding is still in the negotiation process and is expected to be completed in September, Nurbaya revealed.
The minister remarked that the first funding from Norway was used to support five activities in the forestry and other land use sector (FOLU), namely sustainable forest management, increasing carbon reserves, conservation, peat and mangrove management, and instruments and information.
"We have a lot of mediums to show our work. Do not let external parties guess what we have done here. The governing procedure is still in process," she emphasized.
On the same occasion, Norwegian Ambassador to Indonesia, Rut Kruger Giverin, affirmed that her side commended Indonesia's extraordinary achievements in lowering GHG emissions by reducing deforestation.
"Indonesia manages the funding, and we are very grateful and impressed by today's event by Minister Nurbaya to gather various stakeholders involved in activities to support the plan," she remarked.
