Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno targets Ed Sheeran's concert in Jakarta on March 2, 2024, to have an economic impact of more than Rp100 billion (around US$6.3 million).

Ed Sheeran: Mathematic Tour 2024 concert, which will be held at the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS), is expected to be watched by up to 50 thousand people.

"The typical expenditure of archipelago tourists up to 50 thousand spectators is a multiplier of Rp2.7 million (approximately US$172 thousand), with a conservative direct impact of Rp100 billion more," Uno said in Jakarta on Monday (February 26).

The four-time Grammy Award winner's concert was originally scheduled to be held in the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Main Stadium (GBK), but the venue was changed to JIS as GBK will be used to prepare for the Indonesian national team's match against Vietnam.

However, Uno believes that the English singer-songwriter's concert at JIS would be an iconic 360-degree stage spectacle.

According to Deputy for Tourism Products and Implementation Vincent Jemadu, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy and PK Entertainment, as promoters, continued to improve the concert quality. Coldplay was also promoted by PK Entertainment in November.

"Learning from the success of Coldplay, we see that this PK Entertainment promoter has improved the quality of its implementation," Jemadu said.

He added that Ed Sheeran's concert, with 50 thousand spectators, is also expected to contribute to the tourism sector and the creative economy, which this year is targeted to reach 1.5 billion movements.

"As many as 10 to 15 percent of foreign tourists will attend the concert, so it can contribute to the economy," he stated.
