Karnavian, in a statement from his ministry received here on Friday, reminded Polri officers to increase security, especially on routes that receive less attention, such as sea routes, where several accidents may occur due to huge waves, high-intensity rainfall, storms, and La Nina phenomenon.
He noted that several accidents at sea occurred due to a lack of adequate safety standards, including life vests.
“I will also convey it to all regional governments, and I have also given a circular to necessitate all ships that are facing (huge) waves to be equipped with life vests,” he remarked.
In addition, the minister underscored the need to stay alert for air transportation mobility. The issue related to high airplane ticket rates is deemed a potential hindrance in the air transportation sector.
Karnavian, who earlier served as Polri chief, stated that the high price of air transportation would naturally trigger an increase in other prices, especially during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr, when the prices of several other commodities, such as rice and meat, would also rise.
Hence, he encouraged Polri, along with ministries and institutions, to make efforts to control inflation.
“There are regions whose achievement (in controlling inflation) is very good, but there are also those that do not (have good achievement),” he stated.
He also encouraged Polri and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) to continue to work in harmony to ensure the people’s security. He believes this would help in maintaining calm among members in the community as well as increasing their trust in the state.
