"We continue to play a role in improving human resource competency through overseas apprenticeships as well as expanding employment opportunities abroad," Noor noted in a statement from his office on Monday.
In the meeting held at the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, Noor remarked that the number of participants in apprenticeship programs from Indonesia to Japan continues to increase. In 2022, some 8,736 apprentice participants joined the program.
In 2023, the number of participants increased to 13,396, he remarked.
"The increase in the number of apprenticeship participants shows the great enthusiasm of Indonesian young people to improve their competence through apprenticeships," he stated.
Meanwhile, in terms of workforce placement, the Ministry of Manpower ensures that it is working to develop cooperation to accommodate Indonesian migrant workers to participate in the Specified Skilled Workers (SSW) program.
Regarding Indonesia's participation in the SSW program, Noor remarked that the Manpower Ministry has already inked a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) with the Miyagi Prefecture government regarding the Acceleration of Placement and Acceptance of Indonesian Technical Apprentices, Specified Skilled Workers, and Technicians to Japan.
Apart from the MoC with Miyagi Prefecture, the Ministry of Manpower has also signed an MoC with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in human resources' development to bring more contributions to social and economic development in both countries, including solutions to increase the number of SSW program participants from Indonesia, Noor added.
"I hope this MoC would strengthen diplomatic relations in the field of employment between Indonesia and Japan," the deputy minister remarked.
