Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Home Affairs Ministry urged regional authorities to finalize their preparations for the upcoming simultaneous regional elections scheduled for this November.

The ministry's Home Affairs Policy Strategy Agency head, Yusharto Huntoyungo, stated that regional governments should ensure the preparedness of their budget, voter participation, state apparatus neutrality, and election dispute handling.

"As our regional elections will take place by year-end, we expect the time we have right now is enough to prepare it so as to ensure a better and more perfect election is organized than our last one," Huntoyungo noted as per the statement here Wednesday.

The ministry's caretaker Director General of Regional Financial Development, Horas Maurits Pandjaitan, remarked that the budget for the 2024 regional election will be disbursed from each region's budget.

He said the ministry had reminded regions to prepare the election budget in two phases: 40 percent of the budget to be provided by the 2023 regional budget and 60 percent of it from the 2024 regional budget.

"I ask regional authorities to prepare a regional regulation on the backup fund, which means to procure the election budget in phases," Pandjaitan stated.

Meanwhile, General Elections Commission (KPU) Commissioner Idham Holik underscored the need for regional authorities to ensure good political education among residents by promoting electoral literacy.

It will also determine the quality of participating voters, he added.

"We hope that during the regional elections, the voters' political literacy will improve," Holik remarked.

Moreover, Home Affairs Ministry’s Director General of Politics and Governance analyst, Baginda Achmadsyah Lubis, affirmed his side's readiness to address potential issues in holding the regional elections through various agendas to monitor its implementation.

Lubis also called on the National and Political Unity Agency (Kesbangpol) established in regions to monitor potential issues that might arise during the regional election, such as social conflicts or a disease outbreak.
