The incident of bullying committed by some junior high school students against one in Balikpapan city has reminded us how important bullying prevention is in schools.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Ministry has asked all parents, teachers, and the community to help prevent all forms of physical violence, such as bullying, in educational environments.

"The incident of bullying committed by some junior high school students against one in Balikpapan City has reminded us how important bullying prevention is in schools," the ministry's Deputy for Special Child Protection, Nahar, said here on Saturday.

According to him, besides prevention, parents and schools must conduct supervision against bullying.

Nahar expressed concern over continued incidents of bullying, especially against children in schools.

"You can imagine the trauma and fear suffered by physical bullying victims. Parents are the first who must firmly prevent children who have bullying behavior," he said.

Then, educators in the school environment must be involved in bullying prevention.

He said that the ministry has coordinated with the relevant stakeholders and will continue to monitor the handling of bullying to ensure that it meets the best interests of children, both bullying victims and perpetrators.

In addition, his side is striving to ensure that similar incidents do not recur in the future.

A series of in-depth assessments will be carried out to determine perpetrators' motives so that appropriate interventions can be taken.

Earlier, a video of a junior high school student in Balikpapan city, East Kalimantan, being assaulted by his peers in a classroom went viral on social media.
The victim was a 16-year-old boy. Five students aged 14–15 allegedly bullied him, while another student recorded the incident.
