Head of the Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN), Bambang Susantono, confirmed this during a meeting with Commission II of the House of Representatives (DPR) in Jakarta on Monday (March 18).
"According to the ongoing progress, we can organize Independence Day ceremonies at Nusantara's ceremonial square," he stated.
He added that the government will send 6,800 invitations for the ceremony.
Although the authority was requested to prepare for the Independence Day ceremony, the agenda itself will be organized by the State Secretariat Ministry, Susantono added.
The ceremonial square located at the Presidential Palace is currently ready for use, he said, adding that the grass on the square has grown and trees have been planted surrounding the square.
"We expect that by August 17, the square will be more pleasing to the eye," he remarked.
Susantono also said that two hotels will be ready to serve attendees of the Independence Day ceremony. The two hotels, each with 200 rooms, are developed by private investors.
"God willing, the first 200 rooms are operational. We also expect healthcare and education facilities to be ready soon," he said.
He noted that the new capital development is still in its first phase, as the long-term project is expected to continue for another two decades until 2045.
Regarding the construction of government offices in Nusantara City, Susantono stated that the progress in work to build the Presidential Palace is still at 58.5 percent as of February 19. Meanwhile, the progress in the development of the Presidential Office has reached 78.64 percent.
The two structures are expected to be completed by October 2024 as the new president takes office, he added.
